Paediatric Basic Life Support – ½ day £45 pp + vat

The WorkSafe Paediatric Basic Life Support (PBLS) programme provides students with Basic First Aid skills in line with current UK Resuscitation Council guidance.  It is an excellent course to teach members of the public or community basic life saving skills for adults, children and infants during a short, concise programme that focuses on immediate priorities and effective, simple care that can be performed until professional medical assistance arrives.

WorkSafe Paediatric Basic Life Support focuses on initial, time critical care for life threatening situations including dealing with someone who has stopped breathing, is bleeding severely or has become unconscious.  Information will also be presented on the Chain of Survival concept to identify that prompt, effective actions can greatly increase the chance of survival.

WorkSafe PBLS meets with the recommendations for training an ‘Appointed Person’ in basic first aid skills as detailed in the HSE Approved Code of Practice L74.

The WorkSafe Paediatric Basic Life Support programme content includes:

  • Importance of self-protection and use of barriers
  • Primary Survey
  • Unconscious Casualties and Recovery Position
  • Adult, child and infant CPR
  • Chain of Survival
  • Basic Bleeding Control
  • Choking in adults, children and infants

The course follows a syllabus laid down by WorkSafe Training Systems and utilises the following training methods:

  • Interactive presentations to convey important information
  • Active learning methods involving small group practice with ongoing instructor assessment
  • Current medical information presented in a relaxed learning environment
  • Opportunity for all students to complete of a course feedback form, register for qualification expiry reminders and keep up to date with first aid changes on the WorkSafe website.

The Syllabus benefits from a flexible course design that allows instructors to tailor the exact content to the exact needs of the students with additional content and subjects available as required.

Successful candidates will be awarded an A4 certificate awarded by WorkSafe Training Systems following completion of the programme.

Paediatric and Early Years First Aid (OFSTED recognised) – 2 days £99 pp + vat

The Worksafe Paediatric and Early Years course is designed for people who are working, or intend to work in the childcare sector. The programme has been designed to meet with the requirements of OFSTED for Early Years First Aid Provision. Additionally the programme meets with the recommendations of the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 issued by the Health & Safety Executive for the ‘Appointed Person’.

WorkSafe Paediatric and Early Years First Aid includes resuscitation skills for Adults, Infants and Children.  Candidates will receive training in a range of first aid skills including:

  • The ability to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs.
  • The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient.
  • The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding.
  • Recognition of common childhood complaints and illnesses and appropriate care.
  • Developing an effective emergency plan for when emergencies occur.
  • The keeping of simple records following an accident in the workplace/care setting.

Paediatric and Early Years First Aid follows a syllabus laid down by WorkSafe Training Systems and utilises the following training methods:

  • Multimedia Presentations and DVD video to convey essential information.
  • Lots of hands on practice in small groups monitored by the instructor.
  • Continual positive encouragement from approved Instructors with a normal maximum group size of 12.
  • An excellent, full colour student manual to use during the course and keep as a future reference on first aid.
  • Up-to-date information presented in a relaxed learning environment.
  • The opportunity to complete a course evaluation and register online with the WorkSafe website to activate automatic qualification expiry reminders and signup for industry related updates.

Successful candidates will be awarded a plastic qualification card on completion and receive a full colour A4 certificate awarded by WorkSafe Training Systems.

Course Duration: 12 hours minimum contact hours (normally over 2 days)

Emergency First Aid at Work with Paediatric Skills – £90 pp + vat

Emergency First Aid at Work with Paediatric Skills is a 1 day WorkSafe first aid training programme of minimum 7 contact hours designed to provide candidates with the HSE approved Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification with additional the addition of infant and child resuscitation skills.

The syllabus follows guidance issued by the HSE for persons providing first aid in low risk environments or where the likelihood of accidents is low and emergency services are readily available.  It is delivered in accordance with the Approved Code of Practice L74.

Emergency First Aid at Work with Paediatric Skills covers the basic essentials required to provide emergency care to a patient.  Candidates will receive training in a range of first aid skills including:

  • The ability to act safely and effectively when an accident or emergency occurs.
  • The treatment and priorities of care for an unconscious patient.
  • The recognition of cardiac arrest and delivery of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adults, infants and children.
  • The ability to recognise and safely treat a patient who is choking (Adult, Infant, Child).
  • The ability to safely and promptly treat a patient who is bleeding and in shock.
  • The ability to recognise and manage a person in Seizure.
  • The keeping of simple records following an accident at work.

WorkSafe Emergency First Aid at Work with Paediatric Skills is a HSE approved programme that uses the following methods to ensure students are fully prepared as a workplace first aiders following attendance:

  • Comprehensive student pack for each delegate containing full colour reference manual for use during the class and as an ongoing reference
  • Fully approved and quality assured instructors with a normal class size not exceeding 12.
  • Active learning strategies with opportunity for lots of practice in small, relxed groups monitored by the instructor.
  • Professional presentation material that uses a graphical approach to ensure understanding of key topics.
  • The opportunity to complete a course evaluation and register online with the WorkSafe website to activate automatic qualification expiry reminders and signup for industry related updates.

Successful candidates will be awarded a plastic qualification card on completion and receive a full colour A4 certificate awarded by WorkSafe Training Systems.

Course Duration: 7 hours

 Automated External Defibrillator  -  6 hours £300 + vat  ( max 12 people  )

                                                                 Off site and onsite training available

WorkSafe Training Systems provides a 1 day AED course that meets the recommendations of the European Resuscitation Council for First Responder Defibrillation. 

Ideally candidates will already hold a HSE First Aid at Work certificate but full training in CPR can be given if necessary. An AED unit is an integral part of the course and should be in-situ or available before training takes place.

AED Programme Content includes:

  • An overview of Ventricular Fibrillation and the use of defibrillators.
  • Emphasis on early intervention, early CPR and the importance of the ‘Chain of Survival’.
  • Lots of hands-on practice for students using training AED’s.
  • Scenario practice sessions tailored to portray similar situations to which the student may have to respond.
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of AED’s.

A final assessment of knowledge and skill is a requirement of this programme.  This is valid for one year but retraining is

Successful candidates will be awarded a plastic qualification card on completion and recieve a full colour A4 certificate awarded by WorkSafe Training Systems.

The qualification is valid for 12 months but refresher training is recommended every six months in line with Resuscitation Council guidance

Course Duration: 6 hours (less time may be required if AED is delivered at the same time as another programme incorporating Basic Life Support skills).
